How to Meditate

The process of meditation is so simple, anyone can do it…even children. Allow yourself a set amount of quiet time, away from outside sounds and distractions. Sit in a relaxed position, close your eyes and breathe. There’s no secret trick to it, although there are many different techniques you can explore to find the one that works best for you. You may choose to start with short periods of meditation, as little as 10 minutes per day can be extremely beneficial. Then, as you build your meditation stamina, gradually increase your time up to an hour per day.

Law of Attraction Meditation

One of the easiest forms of meditation, this practice entails quieting your mind and letting go of conscious thought. Some find it useful to listen to white noise in order to help with the mind-quieting process. When a thought enters the mind, particularly a worrisome or mundane thought (for example, something on your to-do list), simply let the thought float in and out, and continue holding “space” in the mind without thinking. After a while of meditating in this way, you will find that you are suddenly inspired or excited to do something, whether it is to call a friend, go somewhere, or read something. Follow this inspiration and it will ultimately lead you to attract your desired manifestation.

Mantra Meditation

This type of meditation technique involves the conscious repetition of a certain sound, word or sentence. As you begin your practice, close your eyes and “hear” the chosen word(s) over and over in your mind until they become a sort of background noise. When choosing your mantra, the only rule is that it must be pleasing to you.

Trataka Meditation

Followed by numerous religious sectors, including Sufism and Christianity, the Trataka meditation technique is practiced by focusing your gaze on any one particular object. Vipassana Meditation

Vipassana is an ancient meditation technique with one simple premise: focus on your breath. Breathe normally and simply observe the rising and falling of your abdomen as you inhale and exhale. When your mind becomes distracted, simply observe the distraction and label it. For example, if a loud noise breaks your focus, silently say to yourself, “hearing, hearing,” until the distraction fades and you are able to return to observing your breath. If an overactive mind is what pulls you away, you can say “thinking, thinking” until your focus returns.
